My wife shocked me with the news when I got home from work that Michael Crichton, one of my favourite authours, had passed away after a battle with cancer. The 66 year old author is famous for books like Jurassic Park, Timeline, Next, Rising Sun and Disclosure. His credentials are incredible and the list of bestsellers and books turned into movies is longer than your arm.
Crichton impressed me with his incredible ability to use cutting edge technology within darn good stories. Whether dealing with quantum physics, time travel, nanotechnology, genetic engineering or sexual politics, Crichton won’t be replaced. Only two days ago I signed Prey out of our local library, one of his few I haven’t read yet. My three favourite: Eaters of the Dead, Congo and Sphere. Pure Genius!
