Yes I know it sounds like a breakfast of champions, but this is actually a collection of essays by Chuck Klosterman – who can only be described as a pop culture guru. His incredible understanding of everything from TV to music, books to obscure cover bands is amazing, humourous, and impressive.
Klosterman writes on Paradise City, a cover band that plays Guns ‘n’ Roses tunes at tiny night clubs. He explores his relationship to serial killers, and even how they interact in nightclubs. He knows everything about the Saved by the Bell characters and MTV’s The Real World – every single season. Two of my favourite chapters are ‘Sulking with Lisa Loeb on the Ice Planet Hoth’ and ‘The Awe-Inspiring Beauty of Tom Cruise’s Shattered, Troll-Like Face’.
The book covers all kinds of topics and is hilarious. I highly recommend. Thanks for the book Danny Boy.
