My little bro Andrew just finished an intense 5 month web design program at RDC. I went to watch the class’ final presentations on Wednesday. Their assignment was to create their own websites advertising their services. Andrew’s was definitely one of the best. For all of your web design needs, see him.

I got extremely pumped about graphic design myself, something I’ve always been interested in. (A Whole New Mind author Dan Pink suggests carrying my little scrap book around and copying down everything I find aesthetically pleasing) Logos especially, are a unique and powerful way to promote a company, idea, etc. There were other good sites in the class. ROWE: Sign me Up! May 1, 2007

Best Buy in the states has begun a very interesting work program called ROWE or Results Only Work Environment. The basic idea is that results are the only thing that matters. Among other things, the big changes to a regular shift worker include: shorter shifts, flexible hours, the freedom to do things you wouldn’t normally get to do, the freedom to move around the store or office, and the knowledge that in the end, results matter - how you get them doesn’t.

It’s not a huge surprise that this is happening to Fortune 500 type companies. In a capitalistic open market, what is more important than profits (results)? Gone are the days when everyone has to do things the way they used to be done. Management has realized that different people can do things in different ways and still get the same results. Everyone has something unique to offer and synergy is the act of using everyone’s skills to add up to more than the some of their parts.

What I find funny (or extremely capitalistic I suppose) is that this idea of ROWE is actually trademarked. Whoever came up with this idea, registered it and is going to make a killing selling it to rich companies. Good for them.
